HAIR CARE
How to Properly care for your Lotus Hair extensions
Lotus wefts and hand tied wefts are expensive, so proper hair care is important if you want to increase the longevity of your hair.
-
Brush your extensions often, I recommend at least 3x per day, starting at the bottom and working your way up. Do not brush the top of the weft too vigorously, as it could cause it to begin to unravel. It helps to hold the top of the wefts tight to your head with one hand, while brushing with the other. Make sure to brush your natural hair as well, so that it doesn’t become tangled with the weft hair.
-
Try to only shampoo your hair 1-2 times per week, and always use sulfate free, salon quality shampoos and conditioners. Your stylist will most likely recommend an extension safe shampoo for you to use.
-
Never sleep on your extensions wet. It is best to blow dry your extensions as soon as possible. Air drying could lead to tangling and matting. Never put your hair up when it is wet or it could cause your method of application to slip as well.
-
Always use a leave-in conditioner and heat protectant, ALWAYS. This ensures your hair stays hydrated and protected. Immediately out of the shower, apply your leave in conditioner/detangler and heat protectant, and gently brush with a wetbrush, starting at the ends.
-
Do not use any oils, sunscreens, or hair products containing colored pigments, as these can and will stain your wefts, especially if they are blonde. Don’t use any cooking oils on your hair. Be cautious with any sunscreen or tanning oils touching your hair, because some contain chemicals that could turn them a pink-orange color. I started recommending Sun Bum to my clients, based on other extensionist recommendations, and haven’t seen any reactions yet (fingers crossed!).
-
When swimming, wear your hair in a high, tight bun, or low braids. Be careful: Salt water and chlorine will fade your color, so try to avoid getting it wet in the pool or ocean for long periods of time. You can coat your hair in leave in or moisturizing conditioner to prevent your color from fading.
-
Sleep in a low ponytail or braid(s) to prevent tangling during the night.
-
Use a silk or satin pillowcase to keep them fresh and smooth!
